Musa 'BASJOO' - Banana Plants
The ‘Basjoo’ is the world’s cold hardiest banana plant. It is hardy planted in the ground to -3°F and with protective mulching, it can survive temperatures reaching down to -20°F. Its inflorescence is one of the most beautiful of all bananas. Strong fibers in the trunk of the 'Basjoo' have been used to make fabrics. It is a great landscape plant, it lends a tropical appearance to any situation. This is a great addition for gardeners living in cold temperate areas. 'Basjoo' also does very well in containers and makes a good interior plant. This banana can be grown in all 50 states. Gets 10' to 14' tall depending on light and watering. It does not produce edible bananas. This Japanese native is hardy to zero when mulched. It will grow up to 12 feet tall (less than 10' in a large pot) and grace your northern yard with tropical-looking banana stems and leaves. Though its seedy fruit is not palatable the flowers are showy. Zones to 3 -11, Can grow up to 2' per month. Plants now shipped are 10" tall.
